I recently came across an organization with a campaign that hit close to home. IT’S ON US is a cultural movement aimed at fundamentally shifting the way we think about sexual assault. This organization is closely related to Darkness to Light, which specifically works to empower individuals to act in the best interest of children; to equip adults and organizations with the knowledge and skill needed to effectively protect children from sexual abuse.
IT’S ON US is running a powerful campaign, inviting everyone to step up and realize that the solution begins with us. It’s a declaration that sexual assault is not only a crime committed by a perpetrator against a victim, but a societal problem in which all of us have a role to play. We are reframing sexual assault in a way that inspires everyone to see it as their responsibility to do something, big or small, to prevent it. Raising awareness. Holding ourselves and each other accountable. Looking out for someone who cannot consent.
The reason this campaign made me stand up and take action, it is ON US to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I have a person near and dear to my heart who was sexually abused as a child. The abuser was never punished for her actions. I never thought I could feel true hatred until I learned of this person...without even knowing her, seeing her...I have a hatred for her that's beyond words. She took something away from a pure, innocent boy. No one should be sexually abused, especially a child. So, because it hit so close to home and it's such a true, powerful message, I'm challenging YOU to take the pledge as well.

This pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault. It is a promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution. To learn more and take the pledge, please visit IT'S ON US.
